Here's Sarah Palin's clever response to John Kerry's pathetic 'joke' that Palin should have gone missing, rather than Mark Sanford:

But unfortunately,it was short-lived. Not sure what happened exactly. Following the proceeding via Twitter, one minute I heard word that Boehner had the floor with 'unlimited time' and that he would read the entire bill. A filibuster for the ages! Alas, the next minute, word was that he read 'only' the 300 page amendment and the vote wast taking place. (I guess Boehner didn't have a phone book or encyclopedia handy?) The House indeed ended up voting on the 'cap and trade' bill, and it passed 219-212 - with 8 Republicans voting for and 44 Democrats voting against.
Now on to the Senate, where Sen. Jim Inhofe is declaring the bill to be DOA. We can only hope.

That is, reading the Cap and Trade bill that is scheduled for vote in the House tomorrow:

Pull the plug sooner. That should save a boatload on health care costs, according to Barack Obama.
The Los Angeles Times reports:
President Obama suggested at a town hall event Wednesday night that one way to shave medical costs is to stop expensive and ultimately futile procedures performed on people who are about to die and don't stand to gain from the extra care.
In a nationally televised event at the White House, Obama said families need better information so they don't unthinkingly approve "additional tests or additional drugs that the evidence shows is not necessarily going to improve care."
He added: "Maybe you're better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller."
Perhaps. But I wouldn't want the government making that decision for me or my loved ones, would you? I think many of us are perfectly willing to spend serious money on 'additional tests or drugs' that have a chance to improve care or preserve our very lives.
Seriously - Did Obama really say that?
"It's time to act!"

A Fox News anchor described this news conference as McGreevey- and Spitzer-esque - and that about sums it up.
What a shame. We can now cross Mark Sanford off the short list for the GOP presidential ticket in 2012 - but that's the least of Sanford's problems right now.

President Obama has been insisting that creating a public health care 'option' does not pose a threat to private health insurance. Rather, it will simply add a presumably much-needed layer of competition to the health care industry (as if private insurers don't already have plenty of competition amongst themselves).
With that in mind, here is Obama's response yesterday to a question from USA Today's David Jackson:
Q: Won't that [i.e., Obama's rambling answer to the first part of Jackson's question] drive private insurers out of business?
THE PRESIDENT: Why would it drive private insurers out of business? If private insurers say that the marketplace provides the best quality health care, if they tell us that they're offering a good deal, then why is it that the government -- which they say can't run anything -- suddenly is going to drive them out of business? That's not logical.
So conservatives shouldn't view the public 'option' as a threat to private insurance - because the government is so incompetent.
That's illogical, all right. Tell me - how many billions or trillions of dollars are we ready to spend on this again?
Plus, this is just another straw man from Obama. Nobody fears a public 'option' because the government is such a phenomenal marketplace competitor. As Rep. Mike Pence recently said, the government competes in the private sector the way an alligator competes with a duck. The fear is that a public plan - that is available to anyone and everyone under any condition - will cause employers to drop costly health benefits in droves, which in turn will dump people into the system, regardless of the systems' merits.
What happens when the only 'choice' is an incompetent, unimaginably expensive government-run plan?
