Unless you eat this for Thanksgiving, you probably weren't too shocked by this Sarah Palin interview from earlier this week:
But liberals sure were.
Next month comes the truth about Santa Claus.
For your Sunday morning reading pleasure, here is a roundup of conservative commentary on what will surely be known from here on out as Turkeygate:
If this is what twisted the NYT’s knickers, then make sure no one ever takes them to an industrial-scale slaughterhouse. This is basically free-range handling. We’re not seeing vast machinery beheading a string of turkeys in some sort of dehumanized assembly-line process.
One man butchers a turkey for food (two, actually), and the New York Times gets the vapors. Have any of them ever eaten meat? At all?
Folks, this is how farming works: you raise animals, then you kill them and eat them. Here in New York City, we don't get much exposure to the business end of that process, but people across the country who have farmed or hunted know that it's part of life, and has been as long as human beings have been eating animals. It's not a bad thing to have some people in public life who aren't shocked by where our food comes from.
Scott @ Flopping Aces:
Maybe it’s time we all did a gut check and accepted how politics, sausage, and turkey are prepared.
Yes, it's quite a scandal in Liberal Land. Sarah Palin actually doesn't mind when turkeys are killed, almost in her very presence. Which is the rub, I suppose. Unlike the Governor, most liberals make sure they're somewhere else when animals are being slaughtered for food.
If this had been Biden, he would have been yammering on about how the Pilgrims ate turkey after they landed their speedboats at Fraggle Rock back in 1776.
Considering Sarah Palin has been hunting for years and knows how to field dress a moose, of course she's going to be unfazed by what happens at a turkey slaughterhouse. If the libs are shocked by how these turkeys met their demise, maybe I shouldn't tell them that my Thanksgiving turkey wasn't slaughtered as Palin's was, but it was shot by a hunter friend up here in the woods of Northern Michigan.
On cue, the Huffington Post hyperventilated about the SLAUGHTER! going on behind Palin and the rest of the squeamish, PDS-infected blogosphere followed with horrified rantings about the governor’s callousness. You’d think Palin was standing in front of the camera soaked in blood like Sissy Spacek in “Carrie.”
Farmers kill animals. Then they sell them. Grocery stores package them. Meat-eaters buy them and eat them. This is no big deal — except if you reside in the Ivory Tower or the David Brooks/Kathleen Parker/Arianna Huffington/Daily Kos intellectual complex.
I didn’t think I could like Sarah Palin more than I do, but the nancy boys at MSNBC bleating all over the screen about the Great Turkey Carnage is hilarious.”
